When Amy agreed to baby-sit Kendra Edgerton, she had no idea she was stepping into a kidnapping plot. Two men force the girls out of the house and into a cabin in the woods, where they create DVDs to send to the families, in hopes of a large ransom from Kendra's wealthy parents. Using her wits and imagination, Amy stealthily sends clues to the police through the DVDs, but time is working against her: She has one week until her captors decide to return Kendra and get rid of Amy.

About the Author

Peg Kehret was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Minnesota, spent fourteen years in California, and now lives with her husband in Washington State. They have two grown children, four grandchildren, one dog, and one cat.

Peg's novels for children are regularly recommended by the American Library Association, the International Reading Association, and the Children's Book Council. She has won many state "young reader" or "children's choice" awards. Peg's characters are ordinary kids who find themselves in exciting situations and who use their wits to solve their problems. There is usually humor as well as suspense in her books. A long-time volunteer at The Humane Society, she often uses animals in her stories.

Before she began writing books for children, Peg published plays, short stories, articles, and two books for adults. She is a frequent speaker at conferences for librarians and teachers.

At the age of twelve, Peg had polio and was paralyzed from the neck down. Because she can remember that experience and her year of recovery so vividly, she finds it easy to write in the viewpoint of a twelve or thirteen year old. Most of her main characters are that age. Her autobiography, Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio, won the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators, and the PEN Center USA West Award for Children's Literature.

When she is not writing, Peg likes to watch baseball, bake cookies, and pump her old player piano.

I've published 53 books; all but two are for children. I wrote magazine articles, short stories, and plays for many years before I discovered that what I like best is to write books for kids.

When I was twelve, I was paralyzed with polio. I made almost a full recovery but I remember that time of my life so clearly that it's easy for me to write from the viewpoint of a twelve or thirteen-year-old.

I'm always thrilled when one of my books wins a state young reader award, because I know those awards are voted on by children.

I am a widow who was married for 48 years. I have two grown children and four grandchildren. I live on a small wildlife sanctuary near Mt. Rainier National Park and I often have deer and elk in my yard.

It came a little damaged but that is okay nothing drastic. I have been waiting since sixth grade to get this book to myself. I had fallen head over heels with the plot and storyline. 10/10 would recommend.

I teach fourth grade, and I read this book aloud every year. The kids love it and hang on every word. It has so many great cliff hanger stops that will leave them begging you to read more!

This book is a great book for children to read. I think it has some valuable lessons woven into a very exciting, easy to read book. I read the book to help my daughter with the Battle of the Books competition, but was surprised to find a very well written short story. It shows that children are capable of great things if they put their mind to it. They are able to show great compassion and maturity if the situation call for it. It also shows that they listen to us more than we think!!! Again, a very easy book with a great story and good lessons throughout.

Have not read this. Bought it to read myself and then decide whether to give to 12 yr. old boy who loves Peg Kehret's books or keep it until his sister is older. The main character is a girl in this.

This book was suggested for a read-aloud for my class by a fellow teacher. While the subject matter is dark, a child abuduction, the babysitter is a wonderful of bravery and fortitude, My students could hardly wait to see what happened next.

Being a fan of Gwen Hunter, I was eager to read this book. The story is told from the perspective of Nicole, a young woman living in Louisianna, and her life just before and following her marriage to Mongemery De Lande. He is charming, handsome and rich - but Nicole quickly learns that he and his family can be cold and cruel. When she learns a disturbing secret about her husband she leaves and takes her 3 children with her - even though she has heard many times during her marriage that no woman ever leaves a DeLande!! She must take drastic action to protect herelf and her children if she is to survive.

I absolutley loved this book, although I found it a bit hard going at times and definitely disturbung in parts. But the story telling is really well done and keeps the reader's interest throughout.
