INTRODUCTION
I should start by saying that this book won't help you to sleep any better, or even at all. But it will help you to make better use of those hours when you can't sleep. The hours when you're so full of angst and worries that you can't really switch off at night (like me), or haunted by dark thoughts that you don't always understand (like me), or repeatedly woken up right at the point of nodding off by yet another amazing idea (like me).
No matter what is causing your lack of sleep it almost always stems from the same reason. In the modern world it's hard to find, make, or allow enough time to really connect with yourself. The days are becoming busier and busier, and this means that your worries get suppressed, your feelings stay unexplored, and your most creative ideas remain itches that you don't have the time to scratch. All of this floods your brain the moment you try to switch off for the night, and there is a good reason for that.
The night is the perfect time to explore those thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Under the cover of darkness you're free to think thoughts you dare not think, feel emotions you're afraid to feel, and talk to yourself without feeling crazy. While this book won't help you to sleep any better, it will hopefully help you to live a little better. It will provide you with a place to shelter from the gaze and opinions of others and allow you to reconnect with the most important, but often most neglected, person in your life, you.
