About this ebook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The startling true history of how one extraordinary man from a remote corner of the world created an empire that led the world into the modern age—by the author featured in Echoes of the Empire: Beyond Genghis Khan.

The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in twenty-five years than the Romans did in four hundred. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization. Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege.

From the story of his rise through the tribal culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic story of how the modern world was made.

It's been a long time since a book has mesmerized me as much as this one has. The first day I bought it, I read nearly 200 pages straight. By day 2, I was done. Genghis Khan's chronological ascension to nearly world conquerer and leader, which came from his exiled roots where they barely survived eating rats and berries in his impoverished beginnings is nicely written about in three detailed chapters spanning his life. Fascinating read about the Mongolian boy who would one day almost rule the world.

The author's writing style made all the difference. He struck a fine balance between not sounding dry, and yet not resorting to hyperbole in detailing the history of the Great Khan and the Mongols. The contents were well-researched and I truly found the author to be a diligent scholar in the life of Genghis Khan. The anecdotes were enlightening and I have honestly learned a great deal about why the world is like this in the present day. I would happily recommend this book to any reader.

Interesting review of the Mongolian empire. I was expecting more of the book dedicated to Gengis Khan, but overall a good book
