This book is basically a cosmology book. I think Brian Greene does a better job describing our universe than he does.
If you want to read about alternative realities, then you are better off with older works such as David Deutsch's 'The Fabric of Reality' and Wolf's 'Parallel Universe'

A good book to read to realize how insignificant you are in life.

MICHIO KAKU is a professor of physics at the City University of New York, cofounder of string field theory, and the author of several widely acclaimed science books, including Hyperspace, Beyond Einstein, Physics of the Impossible, and Physics of the Future.
