Become Who You Were Born to Be by Brian Souza is a book of transformation. The author shares his own experiences and thoughts that help us to find our passion and proposal of life. The book contain five parts: Discover it, Develop it, Appreciate it, Use it, and Give it away and each one is supported by many examples of extraordinary achievements. Some of the extraordinary accomplishments were created by people we always appreciate Lance Armstrong, Sylvester Stallone, Helen Keller or Jim Carrey. Some others are examples of the power of human spirit and manifest that everything in our life is possible to achieve when we have desire, passion, and determination to do so. These gains were created by people whose live with us and make us aware that inside of anyone of us are seeds of future achievements and victory if we have the courage to set out for success.
As a self-motivational book, Become Who You Were Born to Be is addressed to everyone who has been feeling that they have lost meaning and proposal of life and would like to embark on a new path – path of changes. The book is written in a clear, easy to understand style with a passion to support us to make a decision to move forward. The selection of experiences of people who struggled to accomplish their dreams and ultimately won opens for us a completely new perspective and helps us to make the decision to improve our lives. The book is far from psychological or analytical jargon, and contains examples from real lives, the author made a great effort to write this book for everybody who needs help. The book is written to assist us in our journey to achieve and is not written to dazzle with terminology and pseudo scientific wanderings Souza creates a book that can be read by everyone. I find this book very useful in my social work field as a supportive tool to enhance motivation of my friends and acquaintances. One of the examples from the book is about Franklin Chang – Diaz, who as a child was born into a middle-class family in Costa Rica and achieved his dream to became a space shuttle astronaut is an eye opening experience and message for newcomers. From this, and many other encouraging examples we can learn that only the limitation that we have is our imagination.
I think that in times when a lot of us feel out of place in our professional life and our salary is less than modest, and every day in our life we know that something is missing, this book has the power to change it. Become Who You Were Born to Be is a book that I recommend for everyone who would like to make one more effort to improve their own life and rediscover once again the meaning of life. I think that life with passion, with desire to be ourselves, and trying to achieve our intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and economical potential makes sense. Because somewhere inside everyone of us is the wish to be our best selves and enrich our understanding and meaning of the world around us.
