About this ebook

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The inspirational classic from a renowned spiritual leader that "offers a moving and humane approach to understanding life’s windstorms” (Elisabeth Kübler-Ross).

When Harold Kushner’s three-year-old son was diagnosed with a degenerative disease that meant the boy would only live until his early teens, he was faced with one of life’s most difficult questions: Why, God? Years later, Rabbi Kushner wrote this straightforward, elegant contemplation of the doubts and fears that arise when tragedy strikes. In these pages, Kushner shares his wisdom as a rabbi, a parent, a reader, and a human being. Often imitated but never superseded, When Bad Things Happen to Good People is a classic that offers clear thinking and consolation in times of sorrow.

I read this when my Mom passed away suddenly when I was 18 and had just started college 500 miles away. I was an only child and my parents were divorced when I was 6 and my Mom wasn't close in a personal way with her family. I was totally alone. The book helped me realize I had to stand on my own two feet and finish college and live my life as best I could with no guidence but to make my own financial support my job and still have fun and college and gain the whole social experience in college. I managed all of that and was very successful. The key is not letting bad people in your life for life. I had to be alone again several times without that one guiding person in my Mom. That's what this book helped me realize from the start.

This book sustained me during a very dark time. I keep a printed copy and have given several copies to people who needed hope. The author has been there! So happy to have this book on my phone to share with others in crisis.
