Publisher Description

Ages ago, sorcerers of unmatched power sundered a world into four realms—sky, stone, fire, and water—then vanished. Over time, magicians learned to work spells only in their own realms and forgot the others. Now only the few who have survived the Labyrinth and crossed the Death Gate know of the presence of all four realms—and even they have yet to unravel the mysteries of their severed world. . . .

In Arianus, Realm of Sky, humans, elves, and dwarves battle for control of precious water—traversing a world of airborne islands on currents of elven magic and the backs of mammoth dragons. But soon great magical forces will begin to rend the fabric of this delicate land. An assassin will be hired to kill a royal prince—by the king himself. A dwarf will challenge the beliefs of his people—and lead them in rebellion. And a sinister wizard will enact his plan to rule Arianus—a plan that may be felt far beyond the Realm of Sky and into the Death Gate itself.

Still a great book today

I first read this book during the initial paperback run. It's just as good today as it was then. My only complaint lies with the introduction of the dwarves. These few chapters are rather bland and difficult for me to get through. But that's only because I know about the really good stuff to follow.

Note: this ebook needs some editing. They are many misprints and a few sentences that don't make any sense as printed. I think there are also a couple missing sentences.

OK

I have read a lot of Weis and Hickman and normally enjoy their writing style and storytelling. It was hard to get into the book and the setting is probably my biggest complaint. As always they do a great job making the characters someone you get into and cheer for. Once I finished the whole book and had time to digest it all I found it ok but it didn’t have me immediately downloading the next one in the series the way the Dragonlance books always did.

It's still a good book

I remember getting this and the rest of the series in hardback. Sad to say I gave them away. Now they are on Itunes I'll get them again.
