November 2007. Allentown. 2.7* Shepard's stories are fairly unique, especially when he gives them historical settings to illuminate the human condition. My favorite in this collection was told from the POV of the executioner in Paris during the Reign of Terror.

Jim Shepard is the author of six novels and two previous collections of stories. He teaches at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
