This "work" could have made me laugh if it weren't so pathetic of an attempt. "Real"? The only thing real were the obvious desires, opinions and bias of the author, who gave himself embarrasingly away with his salacious conjectures. Anyone reading the Bible for themselves would see David was far from perfect without the necessity of inventions. The book should have been titled, King David: In My Dreams.

Jonathon Kirsch takes too much liberty with the biblical text and provides us with plenty of his own personal opinions. Kirsch apparently is very suspicious of David, he went as far as to accuse David as being complicite in the rape of his own daughter. I was able to use this book in a research project I wrote on King David, but, of course, kept out all of Kirsch' personal dimishings of David.
