Publisher Description

In Vietnam's jungle war, only one group of men was feared more than death itself—the Marine Scout Snipers. . . .

The U.S. Marine Scout Snipers were among the most highly trained soldiers in Vietnam. With their unparalleled skill, freedom of movement, and deadly accurate long-range Remington 700 bolt rifles, the Scout Snipers were sought after by every Marine unit—and so feared by the enemy that the VC bounty on the Scout Snipers was higher than on any other elite American unit.

Joseph Ward's letters home reveal a side of war seldom seen. Whether under nightly mortar attack in An Hoa, with a Marine company in the bullet-scarred jungle, on secret missions to Laos, or on dangerous two-man hunter-kills, Ward lived the war in a way few men did. And he fought the enemy as few men did—up close and personal.

Great Read

Awesome book. I had never learned about Marine Scout Snipers and enjoyed this book from start to finish.

Amazing, book brought me there

Not many books have the ability to draw me in. I picked this up thinking it was just a overview of engagements and the experience. But this personal account shows the humanity behind these very skilled and talented snipers. The book goes into the depth about the level of detail in training, in combat, and the discipline that needed to be carried at all times. From the matching of ammo, the crawls through the jungles, the sniper 1 v1 gun fights, and reconnaissance skills developed, this book will make you realize the snipers experience is as adrenaline fueled as the infantry, being actively hunted while also hunting. Amazing read if you want more than just info but an experience to come along i highly praise this book.

Dear Mom: A Sniper’s Vietnam

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I come from a military family that includes Navy and Marine Corps. I found this to be tension filled and riveting. A meaningful glimpse into this sniper’s journey.
