About this ebook

The War & Peace of golf. A quaint old classic from 1946, with an intro by the Duke of Windsor. It's good advice, and seriously, this game has hardly changed a whit in 50 years!

I've read this book several times and will read it a few more times before I'm done. Percy Boomer was ahead of his time. The son of a schoolmaster, he studied golf and how to teach it for 30 years before he wrote this and it shows. He teaches by "feel" and the language he uses is carefully chosen to convey 'feel'. "Your arms feel 'down' throughout the swing" is how he teaches width. He spends a considerable time on the mental game talking about the metnal game. Golf Illustrated described Percy Boomer as a thought leader and having read his book, and found a lot of what he teaches in modern golf books, I would agree with that description.

About the author

PERCY BOOMER (1885-1949) was born in London and raised on the Isle of Jersey under the watchful eye of his father, a village school teacher. He was a professional golfer and a notable instructor on the sport. During Boomer’s professional golfing career, he secured a win in three tournaments, which were the 1923 Belgian Open, the 1924 Swiss Open, and the 1927 Dutch Open. Boomer was an advocate of muscle memory and incorporated positive thinking in his teaching methods rather than negatively critiquing his pupils. He built a favorable reputation at the St. Cloud Golf Club in the suburbs of Paris.
