About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this, the extraordinary conclusion of the ice-age epic series, Earth’s Children®, Ayla, Jondalar, and their infant daughter, Jonayla, are living with the Zelandonii in the Ninth Cave. Ayla has been chosen as an acolyte to a spiritual leader and begins arduous training tasks.

Whatever obstacles she faces, Ayla finds inventive ways to lessen the difficulties of daily life, searching for wild edibles to make meals and experimenting with techniques to ease the long journeys the Zelandonii must take while honing her skills as a healer and a leader. And there are the Sacred Caves that Ayla’s mentor takes her to see. They are filled with remarkable paintings of mammoths, lions, and bears, and their mystical aura at times overwhelms Ayla.

But all the time Ayla has spent in training rituals has caused Jondalar to drift away from her. The rituals themselves bring her close to death, but through them Ayla gains A Gift of Knowledge so important that it will change her world.

BONUS: This edition contains a reading guide and an interview with Jean M. Auel.

Sixth in the acclaimed Earth’s Children® series.

It's 3.44am and I just finished this book and series and I am devastated there isn't more. I could probably spend the rest of my life reading the continuations of this series if only Jean M. Auel would keep writing them. Definitely worth the read, I have been and will continue to recommend this series to any and all who listen. I also feel not everything was resolved. I want to know how/if certain issues were resolved and if Ayla and Jondalar had more children, but I suppose that's up to my imagination now

My enthusiasm may have waned in the time it took for this book to come out. I remember feeling disappointed years ago that there was more to the story that had yet to be written. The educational aspect and the perspective cavepeople may have had differently were both entertaining and enlightening, so that alone is worth the read. Just wish the element of "more to come" were still present. It seems as though they lived happily ever after from the beginning in this one. Meh.

So much repetition. We are 6 books into the series. Everytime Ayla does something she has done 250 times we don't need to be reminded of the when where and why that started. If you removed all of the repeated explanation from this book it would be a quarter of the length. Series should have concluded in a final ending of the last book instead of dragging us through this redundant bore.
