About this ebook

The memoir of a high-functioning, law-abiding (well, mostly) sociopath and a roadmap—right from the source—for dealing with the sociopath in your life.

“[A] gripping and important book . . . revelatory . . . quite the memorable roller coaster ride.”—The New York Times Book Review

As M.E. Thomas says of her fellow sociopaths, “We are your neighbors, your coworkers, and quite possibly the people closest to you: lovers, family, friends. Our risk-seeking behavior and general fearlessness are thrilling, our glibness and charm alluring. Our often quick wit and outside-the-box thinking make us appear intelligent—even brilliant. We climb the corporate ladder faster than the rest, and appear to have limitless self-confidence. Who are we? We are highly successful, noncriminal sociopaths and we comprise 4 percent of the American population.”

Confessions of a Sociopath—part confessional memoir, part primer for the curious—takes readers on a journey into the mind of a sociopath, revealing what makes them tick while debunking myths about sociopathy and offering a road map for dealing with the sociopaths in your life. M. E. Thomas draws from her own experiences as a diagnosed sociopath; her popular blog, Sociopathworld; and scientific literature to unveil for the very first time these men and women who are “hiding in plain sight.”

Everything I read suggested, not the actions of a sociopath, but that of an insecure individual whom attempts to place herself above mere human beings. She has an overwhelming desire to differentiate herself by emulating those that do not have the ability to empathise. This emulation is obvious through her emotionally gushing view of sociopaths and the desire to empathise with them. This is the work of an emotionally disturbed narcissist, but no sociopath. That said, not a bad read, just darkly ironic.

Laughable! Not all confession comes from a place of compassion. In this case, this “book” was just a bunch of excuses and defenses in disguise of the “sound-so-smart” analysis backed up by the non-referenced unreliable scientific research. I do not know how this rambling writing was even turned into a book, maybe because of the hype around this “sociopath” label or maybe because they think a book called “confession of xyz” would make a good sell or maybe both. I felt sick to my stomach just by skimming through some paragraphs. I do not know what good thing one should learn from reading this so-called confession thing other than feeling more disgusted towards this type of people. But one thing for sure, these people are dead sick and they clearly know it, yet they are so pathetic that they do not want to grow to be a better human being. They do not have the courage to take the full responsibility to fix and heal what went wrong with them, they only succumb. And that’s what makes them the biggest delusional losers in this society!

This book is oozing pretentiousness. This is a work of fiction written by a woman (?) who thought sociopathy was cool. I felt that even before I read the book. My feeling was justified within the first two chapters...does the author not have any advisors? How could she fail to notice the blatant inconsistencies in things she says? It sounds like she read a few pages in a textbook on mental disorders and was transported into a fantasy world, then decided to write about it.
