From Booklist

Yates’ bibliophile star of Dog Loves Books (2010) is back, this time in an ode to drawing. When Dog receives a blank book from his aunt Dora, he is initially unsure of its purpose—luckily there’s a note of explanation, and Dog immediately pulls out his pens, pencils, and brushes and sets to work. As with the best artwork, Dog’s efforts are transformative: the door he draws opens, and he steps through it. There, he draws a stickman (kids will relate), and they doodle together. When the page is brimming over with stars and curlicues, they turn the page to a blank one and create new friends—a pink owl, a striped duck, and a more traditional-looking orange crab. The quintet draw themselves into adventures until the duck creates something “that spoils everything,” and they need to find their way out of the sketchbook. Dog, with his floppy ears and irrepressible love of books and creativity, is a charmer, and little kids will find his enthusiasm inspiring. Storytime and activity possibilities abound. Grades K-3. --Ann Kelley

It's great. The first time I read Dog Loves Drawing to my 5-year-old, he was transfixed from start to finish, and then said, "read it again." And then again. And then he brought it to school for sharing time. We've read it at bedtime, not once each bedtime but twice or three times. He said he loves the pictures even more than the words, and he follows the story each part of the picture tells. I like the words and their rhythm, I like the story and the allusions to Harold & the Purple Crayon, and the pictures keep me entertained through the many, many times I have read this aloud.

Upon receiving the book as a gift, my grandkids requested a reading session several times per day for a week. Especially if If your child or grandchild likes to draw, this book humorously demonstrates that there's really no limit to the imagination, and putting such on paper leads to even more imagining!

Love this book and so does my 3 year old! Cute, creative, and encourages telling one's own story through imagination as well as drawing. The others in the series are great too. I'm ordering this for young elementary age relatives for Christmas and will include blank sketchpads, just like Dog receives from his Aunt.

I am a big fan of Lousie Yates books and this one did not disappoint. I have grandchildren , five and eight, who love to read it. It has been a great motivator for the five year old, who is learning to draw. When he saw that dog drew designs and doodles, that looked a lot like many of his drawings, he got excited that if dog could learn to draw more, he could too! With a new set of Color Apeel crayons and sketchbook, he is having fun drawing this summer! Highly recommended!

Dog loves drawing. He draws himself an adventure and meets new friends. Beautifully drawn and written, finishes with a slightly scary monster at the end. (That's scary for Dog, not for readers - as the monster is drawn in a comical way)

This was a real hit, a laugh out loud book, which six year old grandson read to himself, and then told the family the story! Doesn`t get much better than that.
