Doesn't hold up
The first and only other book I've read by this author is the first one in this series, "... English Scoundrel" and it was quite good. The dialogue and writing was quick and clever, even if the plot was pretty light. Unfortunately this one did not have the same writing and the plot just may be lighter. I really detest when writers set up a plot that could (and should) be expanded and has so many other recourses that the characters pretend do not exist, yet they are in a perilous situation the whole time. There really was no reason that the protagonist hid for over a month and plotted to take down his murderer by himself. Furthermore, the evidence he seemed to require, and that being the reason he waited, was never really discussed except in the flimsiest of manners. I'm at a loss as to what waiting got the guy--except as an intro to Chloe. I'm also not buying the writer's need to set her lovebirds up so quickly. It's a love at first sight thing with them which doesn't fit either the men or women. I admit I skimmed all the parts of internal dialogue because they were just boring and rattled on repetitively. There was a lot of opportunity for this story, it would've been great if the whole family had got involved or at least the spies, but the author kept things insular and thus boring. Really the story isn't worth 3 stars to me, but at least it's not overtly erotic (as so many are today) and the writing isn't sophomoric.
Incoherent, don't spend the money.
This is boring from the first page and it does not get any better. Imagine a man dying unable to stand up, passing out and the next line he is standing up with a gun and witting a letter. That is as far as I could get before I gave up reading. I blew $ 7.00 bucks.
