About this ebook

“This is an excellent series, and Echoes of Betrayal is particularly well done. [Elizabeth Moon] is a consistently entertaining writer, and this book lives up to her standards.”—San Jose Mercury News

All is not well in the Eight Kingdoms. In Lyonya, King Kieri is about to celebrate marriage to his beloved, the half-elf Arian. But uncanny whispers from the spirits of his ancestors continue to warn of treachery and murder, and a finger of suspicion points in a shocking direction. Meanwhile, in Tsaia, the young king Mikeli grapples with unrest among his own nobility after granting the title and estates of a traitorous magelord to a Verrakaien—who not only possesses the forbidden magic but is a woman. The controversial decision and its consequences put the king’s claim to the throne in peril. But even greater danger looms. A dragon’s wild offspring are sowing death and destruction, upsetting the ancient balance of power. A collision seems inevitable. Yet when it comes, it will be utterly unexpected—and all the more devastating for it.

“Fans of epic fantasy . . . should enjoy this series.”—Library Journal

“Rousing action and intriguing plot twists.”—Kirkus Reviews

After reading this book, and the other books in this series, I feel that each character needed to be given more time. I suppose that is good. In the Deeds of Paksenarrion, it was easier to follow the character. I could see how it would be much harder to follow the characters in this series if you hadn't first read Deeds of Paksenarrion. I am looking forward to reading more of Paladins Legacy in the near future.

Like most of Elizabeth moon's books I found Echo's of Betrayal appealed to me immensely and is one of the series worth buying. However a major problem with paladin's legacy is that its a series rather than a saga. That is in for example the deed of paksenarion you could read book 1 or 3 only and have a good self contained story although if you wanted to know everything that happened to her you also had to read the other books which is what I term a saga. However paladin's legacy is set up so that the story spans all the books, including those not yet written which means if you read book 1 or 3 you are left hanging without an individually contained book and if you read book 2 or 3 your left unsure about events that were set up in the proceeding ones. I term this a series and it detracts from the enjoyment as until you have the full X number of books the story is hard to follow. The 3 books of paladins legacy therefore read less as "books" and more as very long chapters of a larger tale making it hard to judge. The other half star was lost due to characters abilities and personalities changing markedly from book to book that I can't go into without spoiling things.
