Cherished author Sandra Chastain offers readers a searing story of love and promise, danger and desire.

Dr. Nikolai Sandor has sworn off caring for patients. It’s all research, all the time for him now. But after taking a call he can’t ignore, Niko finds himself at the bedside of a woman who had attempted to take her own life . . . and now refuses to wake from her twilight state. Niko is drawn to the angelic woman, to her peaceful face. When he touches her hand and whispers to her of love and passion, he senses she is aware of his presence. He must wake her—even if it means believing in a romance that might never begin.

Karen Miller doesn’t want to wake up. She wants to be alone with her pain, in the darkness of her deepest sleep. But she can’t ignore that voice, low and seductive. Who is this man, this tempter at her bedside? Is he real? His sensual whispering has penetrated Karen’s safe haven, creating an intimacy she’d never known before. But if she opens her eyes, will she ever be safe again?

I found this story to be like a pay it forward, someone that believed that sinned and now they have the chance to change someone life, maybe find love.

This is the first Mac's Angels read and totally fell in love with the storyline. The plot was fascinating and captivating. Ms. Chastain creates a story about a Gypsy that has lost sight of life but one woman will change everything for him, someone that has the same name as his sister.

Karen Miller is a young woman that is in coma and doesn't want to leave, she wants to stay in her fantasy, wants to stay in her safe haven. Something dramatic happened to her and the fear she is feeling disappears when she stays with her "Gypsy Lover." Only someone is breaking her wall and this voice, his touch is making her feel and she doesn't want to feel. It's not only that but he says that they are lovers and he can't wait to make love to her again, but she can't remember him can he be true her Gypsy Lover be for real and she is in this fantasy.

Dr. Nikolai Sandor has lived a really rough life; the roughest part was when his sister passed away in his arms. Now he is doing research but not only that he has removed himself from life. He is known for his smooth talking, money making ways when it comes to fundraising but that is it. Then he receives the call from Mac it's time for him to make a difference in someone's life, he can bring her back to reality.

Nikolai knows that there is nothing impending Karen to be awake but what is keeping her in coma. Only when he starts talking to her touches her and talks to her about desire something happens, her heartbeat accelerates. Karen wants for him to stop talking to her, there is something about him but the more he talks and touches her her wall is breaking. With the use of desire Nikolai is able to pull Karen out of coma but not only that he helps her escape from the hospital.

Someone is looking for Karen but why that is why Nikolai seeks help from not only Mac but also from a newspaper reporter that he knows. After he finds out information on Karen the next thing is to take her to Slade Island and try to talk to her and have her remember the reason why she walked into the path of a car, or did she. Karen is starting to regain her memory pieces at a time but she is not ready for her full memory. Nikolai can't keep his hands off her anymore; he needs to kiss her, needs to hold her, make love to her and the moment that happens his heart is lost to Karen.

Ms. Chastain creates a story that contains fear, passion and love. I fell in love with these two characters and how their relationship evolved from a fantasy storytelling into a real relationship. Now there were some twists and turns at the very end that I could not believe, it left me speechless. The writing style is beautiful and pace of the story was great, once I started I didn't want to put it down.

All together Ms. Chastain provided me with an excellent read and I totally recommend it to any reader.

Dr. Nikolai Sandor has devoted his life to research, I am not sure what he was researching. I assume it was told, but it just didn't stick with me. He no longer treats patients. That changes, when he is asked to treat a woman that attempted suicide by walking into traffic. She now lays in a coma, and another doctor thinks Nicholas is the only one that can make wake her up.

Karen Miller has been in a coma for awhile. I know the book told how long, but that did not stick with me either. There is no medical reason for her coma. The doctors believe that she has just given up on life and refuses to wake up. They are right. Karen enjoys the peacefulness of her own mind. The world has nothing for her anymore. Not until, she hears the sexy voice of a stranger telling her all the things they have done together.

Saying that Nicholas chose an odd course of treatment would be an understatement. He sat with her for hours on end. Making up stories about things they had done together. Most of which were completely unprofessional. She reacted to his voice from nearly the moment he walked into the room.

I think the author tried to make it appear that they were falling in love, while she was still in a coma. It just did not work for me. Granted, I could see her falling for a voice. The only voice that could break into her mind. But, Nicholas falling for a woman in a coma was just freaky.

Nothing happened between them while she was in a coma, except a kiss. Nicholas did get turned on, but he did not act on it. That was too much for me. I just thought it was icky. Yes, I said icky. I could not think of any other word that would describe it better ;)

When she did wake up, they had to go on the run. I am not going to tell you why. But I will say she had a reason for walking out into traffic. Once Nicholas discovered the reason, he knew he had to save her.

Okay, this is when the book jumped the shark for me. She is a coma, then poof she is well enough to go on the run. That is just not possible. My father was in a coma, after an accident. Granted, he was injured and she wasn't. But, I can tell you that your body does not deal well with a coma. Injured or not, you will not be running a marathon (or for your life) the day you wake up.

From this point on Nicholas and Karen are hiding from bad guys, falling deeper in love, and trying to stay alive. It was a never ending struggle. They seemed to never have a moments peace. (All this while she was recovering.) It was just all too much for me.

I am not saying this was a bad book. It was just not for me. It was well written, the editing was spot on, and it was exciting.

Would I recommend this book? No, but I would recommend checking some of her other books.
