Airframe: A Novel

An immersive account of an investigation into the causes of a flight accident - not dissimilar to the one conducted in 'The Rising Sun', though with slightly less suspence. The story dives deep into the daily life of an aircraft manufacturing company, with high volume of technical details and background data, characteristic of Crichton novels. There are also several quite insightful passages on modern media. The experience is very lifelike, at least to a non-expert in the field of aviation. The story is interesting if somewhat lacking in dramatic moments - not a thriller, closer to a courtroom drama. If you enjoy watching shows like J.A.G., you'll feel at home here. A masterful narrative, skillfully weaved - a model example of how to compose a story. Still, I found that two threads crucial to the investigation, a fact quite evident from the onset, are not pursued by the protagonist until very late in the story. As with many crime novels, certain facts are kept away from the reader only to be uncovered in the brillantly revealing denouement . A female narrator is not a bad choice for a novel with predominantly female characters, although some male parts come up a bit short.

A great mixture of fiction and reality. Very believable.

I was a bit disappointed in this one. I normally love Michael Crichton and this just didn't seem to be one of his better stories. It felt a little slow moving at times and the climax was a bit anti-climactic. I normally enjoy the techincal information Crichton displays in his books, but this time it lost something.

Decent story but should not have been abridged. Left a lot of questions in my mind.

Originally received 2 of 3 CDs. Customer Service quickly responded with new (and complete) set. Thought that the story was good but the ending could've been expanded a bit. Perhaps the unabridged version would have been the answer. Found myself stretching out my drive home each night so that I could finish listening to it.

Recieved damaged set, waiting for new set, then I will present an objective review with regard to the Airframe contact.

I was less than captivated by this abridged version. It's incredibly short, and I didn't find any of the edge of your seat aspect that others have mentioned. Each clue toward the ending was so obvious as it appeared that there was no surprise at the end. It's a decent story, and the narration was wonderful, but it just didn't thrill me.

This is a classic on the edge of your chair Michael Crichton page-turner. The only negative comment I have (and why I only gave four stars instead of five) is that since this is an abridged version I frequently felt like information was missing and some of the action was not fully motivated or explained. I think I would have preferred the unabridged version, but this one was still very good.

I was very excited when I received the book. but I did not really enjoy the story. I did enjoy all of the technical infomation about the aviation field, though.

This story helped reassure my fears about air travel!! Airframe was very interesting and the narration was wonderful. I enjoyed this audiobook immensely!

Great book, it kept me guessing until the end. Additionally, the technical information about the aerospace industry was enlightening.

i liked it ... certainly not an "edge of your seat book" but Airframe has all the qualities Michael Crichton is famous for - suspense, espionage, intrigue, and blackmail. they are all brought together skillfully in this book and i would recommend it to anyone that enjoys aviation subjects.

Nothing too great or too exciting. Not bad, but I really was hoping for more.
