I read this novel for a class at Normandale Community College, and ended up loving it. I instantly felt a strong, tight mental connection to the main character - despite us having very different experiences and lives. A beautifully written book, definitely a great novel.

"Split" had me turning pages like crazy. I just couldn't put it down. The suspense and drama are through the roof. It's got everything. The life of Jace Witherspoon is a hard one. Abusive home.......check....... an ex-girlfriend who's put out a warrant for your arrest.......check.........thrown out of your home........check........living with your brother who is practically a complete stranger.......check...and check. "Split" is a book with emotion and excitement.

I read it on a recommendation. It was predictable in the way that YA tends to be, but it wasn't terrible. There was nothing overtly bad about the writing style, but nothing exciting about it either.
About the author
Swati Avasthi teaches creative writing and is working toward her MFA at the University of Minnesota, where she received a grant to complete Split. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and their two children.
