Publisher Description
The third novel in Peter Clines' bestselling Ex series.
“All of us try to cheat death. I was just better prepared to do it than most folks.”
In the years since the wave of living death swept the globe, St George and his fellow heroes haven’t just kept Los Angeles’ last humans alive—they’ve created a real community, a bustling town that’s spreading beyond its original walls and swelling with new refugees.
But now one of the heroes, perhaps the most powerful among them, seems to be losing his mind. The implacable enemy known as Legion has found terrifying new ways of using zombies as pawns in his attacks. And outside the Mount, something ancient and monstrous is hell-bent on revenge.
As Peter Clines weaves these elements together in yet another masterful, shocking climax, St. George, Stealth, Captain Freedom, and the rest of the heroes find that even in a city overrun by millions of ex-humans...
…there’s more than one way to come back from the dead.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Clines's high-concept mashup of superheroes and the undead, now on book three (after Ex-Patriots), continues to be one of the few interesting updates of the tired postapocalyptic zombie subgenre. In a ravaged Los Angeles, heroes like the gunslinging, analytical Stealth and her partner, powerhouse St. George, fight alongside enhanced soldiers. The threat of the mindless "ex-human" hordes, or "exes," makes life complicated enough, but things get stranger when Stealth and company meet Madelyn Sorensen, an unusually well preserved and shockingly sentient ex. Further casting doubt on their already-limited understanding of life and death is the revelation that Max Trent, a hero who supposedly died, is haunting the city as a ghost; the demon Cairex, whose body Max had previously hijacked, is not pleased. Fans of zombie gore might be a tad disappointed to realize this is a superhero tale at heart. Clines throws in a whole lot of plot, but the distinct voices of the characters and the solid pacing keep the story entertaining and the action fresh.

This is another amazingly exciting addition to an excellent series !! Great twists and I am still loving all of the old and the new characters.
Ex-Communication
A solid, well written follow up to the first two books. I really enjoyed it at every level. His writing style has gotten tighter and the pacing of the story is better because of it.
I really loved the first book, Ex-Heroes, and really liked the second one, Ex-Patriots. Ex-Communication is right up their with the first one. I'm very much looking forward to the next book.
