Summary
THE FINAL INSTALLMENT IN SUE GRAFTON'S ALPHABET SERIES
WINNER OF THE ANTHONY/BILL CRIDER AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL IN A SERIES

Private investigator Kinsey Millhone confronts her darkest and most disturbing case in this #1 New York Times bestseller from Sue Grafton.

In 1979, four teenage boys from an elite private school sexually assault a fourteen-year-old classmate—and film the attack. Not long after, the tape goes missing and the suspected thief, a fellow classmate, is murdered. In the investigation that follows, one boy turns state’s evidence and two of his peers are convicted. But the ringleader escapes without a trace.

Now, it’s 1989 and one of the perpetrators, Fritz McCabe, has been released from prison. Moody, unrepentant, and angry, he is a virtual prisoner of his ever-watchful parents—until a copy of the missing tape arrives with a ransom demand. That’s when the McCabes call Kinsey Millhone for help. As she is drawn into their family drama, she keeps a watchful eye on Fritz. But he’s not the only one being haunted by the past. A vicious sociopath with a grudge against Millhone may be leaving traces of himself for her to find...

So sorry that Sue Grafton is gone. I’ve enjoyed all of her books. Kinsey is so funny and I will miss her!!

I have to agree with William D L, There is too much time spent on insignificant goings on with Kinsey. This book could have been way shorter. I have enjoyed most all of her books, but have to say it seems like she knows the alphabet story line is at its end and she want to prolong the end. If there are abridged volumes try that, otherwise be ready for long portions of tedium. Respectfully submitted R.Cardinal

Really boring and very repetitive, but the narration was great.

Very frustrating because Kinsey who as always, is under threat never seems to protect herself or take the danger seriously. Any normal person would have done things differently but not Kinsey. She is a very capable detective but in this book has no common sense at all. Also the side story of Henry her Landlord and Rosie the restaurateur is getting very tiring. 50% of the book deals with neighborhood gossip and minutia unrelated to the main story. Understand I have read almost all the series, but in the 17 hours I suffered through, I realized the book could have been half as long and twice as good. Sue Grafton has been very successful with this character but seems to have forgotten that not every reader wants to know the life story in exhaustive detail of minor characters who have NOTHING at all to do with the main story. Sue Grafton loves being folksy but lately to the point of ruing the suspense. Her books at the beginning of the alphabet were what made her famous. Had this been her first novel, there would not have been a second one.

Despite the countless negative reviews I read about this book, I really enjoyed it. Knowing it was the last book Grafton wrote was bitter sweet. It was long and detailed enough that even without having "Z," I felt it provided enough closure for Kinsey Milhone other than her relationship with Chaney Phillips. Pleaae give this book a go with an open mind knowing it is the last Grafton book you'll be able to read....

I loved it! I thought it was great. I love her and couldn’t listen to anyone else reading as Kinsey except Judy Kaye. So sad it’s over !!

Story was vintage Grafton. First time I’ve listened to fiction rather than read. The narrator didn’t get the character of Kinsey at all. All her reading of the young adults was absolutely horrid. Nearly returned it for that reason. If you’re new to the series, read it instead.
