About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham has a new hero ... and she’s full of surprises.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer’s career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track—until the recession hits and she is downsized, furloughed, and escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, all for a slim chance of getting rehired.

In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about. Samantha’s new job takes her into the murky and dangerous world of coal mining, where laws are often broken, communities are divided, and the land itself is under attack. But some of the locals aren’t so thrilled to have a big-city lawyer in town, and within weeks Samantha is engulfed in litigation that turns deadly. Because like most small towns, Brady harbors big secrets that some will kill to conceal.

Don’t miss John Grisham’s new book, THE EXCHANGE: AFTER THE FIRM!

Interesting on facts, short on complex story lines and character development. Unlike his past novels, not much critical thinking was involved here. Does not build or keep suspense. The ending was a lame let down. Like he hit his minimum word limit for the publisher and just quit. Very sad indeed. Only the second Grisham book I wish I had not read (Playing for Pizza being the other)

Very disappointing. The characters were not well developed . The story line was just one lost court case after another. There was no love interest or well written scenario that had me invested in the outcome. This book was a chore to read and finish. I have been a fan for years and have read all Gresham's books. If there is a next one I'll be getting it from the library.

So basically, he wrote a really good half book, got bored, and ended it real fast. I wa extremely disappointed with the fact that NOTHING was finalized, nothing was wrapped up, no one won, and the big mean coal company is apparently NOT brought down by the little guys. WTF, JG?? Try a little freaking harder next time if you dont mind.
