The Other Lady Vanishes is the second book in the Burning Cove Series, which takes place during the 1930s in California. It was months before Adelaide Blade was able to escape the psychiatric hospital where her narcissistic husband had committed her to. Although Adelaide had taken precautions by relocating and changing her name, she never really felt safe. At least, not until, Jake Truett showed up, in Burning Cove, and came to her rescue. Adelaide knew that her husband would never give up searching for her. He needed to continue pilfering her inheritance. And, for that to happen, she had to be locked-up and drugged. For health reasons, Jake Truett was taking a break from his import/export business. So his trip to Burning Cove, California, was in part for his health; but Jake’s primary goal was to find his deceased wife’s diary. Jake knew that if the diary fell into the wrong hands, and made public, her family’s reputation would greatly suffer. Meeting Adelaide in his travels was a definite bonus to his Burning Cove visit. There are several interesting characters in this book, along with some surprises and twists. Although I didn’t find the story entirely realistic, I enjoyed it just the same. If you’re looking for a light mystery with a bit of romance, then The Other Lady Vanishes, just might be the book for you. Thank you, Berkley Publishing and Edelweiss for my advanced review copy.

Even with the familiar trope used by AQ aka Jayne Ann Krentz, I enjoyed the book very much.
