Laura Childs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Tea Shop Mysteries, Scrapbook Mysteries, and Cackleberry Club Mysteries. In her previous life she was CEO/Creative Director of her own marketing firm and authored several screenplays. She is married to a professor of Chinese art history, loves to travel, rides horses, enjoys fund raising for various non-profits, and has two Chinese Shar-Pei dogs.

Laura specializes in cozy mysteries that have the pace of a thriller (a thrillzy!) Her three series are:

The Tea Shop Mysteries - set in the historic district of Charleston and featuring Theodosia Browning, owner of the Indigo Tea Shop. Theodosia is a savvy entrepreneur, and pet mom to service dog Earl Grey. She’s also an intelligent, focused amateur sleuth who doesn’t rely on coincidences or inept police work to solve crimes. This charming series is highly atmospheric and rife with the history and mystery that is Charleston.

The Scrapbooking Mysteries – a slightly edgier series that take place in New Orleans. The main character, Carmela, owns Memory Mine scrapbooking shop in the French Quarter and is forever getting into trouble with her friend, Ava, who owns the Juju Voodoo shop. New Orleans’ spooky above-ground cemeteries, jazz clubs, bayous, and Mardi Gras madness make their presence known here!

The Cackleberry Club Mysteries - set in Kindred, a fictional town in the Midwest. In a rehabbed Spur station, Suzanne, Toni, and Petra, three semi-desperate, forty-plus women have launched the Cackleberry Club. Eggs are the morning specialty here and this cozy cafe even offers a book nook and yarn shop. Business is good but murder could lead to the cafe’s undoing! This series offers recipes, knitting, cake decorating, and a dash of spirituality.

I absolutely love this series! Lovable characters, charming scenery, and murder mysteries with a bit of action intertwined. I want to step inside the Indigo Tea Shop and never leave!

Do you ever find yourself doing a 'bingeread' on a series you have fallen in love with? That is exactly what I did with four of Laura Child's A Tea Shop Mystery series after leaving it for a while Starting with The Silver Needle Murder(#9 in this series).
Truly I missed Charleston, SC one of my favorite cities of all time and I missed Theodosia, Drayton and Haley the aspiring a delightful baker at Indigo Tea and the adventures or misadventures they find themselves in. Somehow where the Three Amigos are 'trouble' follows and envelopes this trio in a variety of whodunits as well as learning so much about tea blends, etc. Then of course there is the constant conflicted curmudgeon of a Detective, Burt Tidwell, and Director/Benfactor of the Heritage Society Timothy Neville a dear friend of Drayton, the Master Tea Blender.
Who murdered famous director Jordan Cole? What direction is Theodosia's love life taking? Does Timothy's granddaughter who worked with Cole have anything to do with his untimely demise? All of these questions continue to be woven together until one knot at a time, they are unraveled, at potentially great risk to Theodosia until the answers reveal themselves in due course. So if you are looking for a real comforting treat, sit back with a nice cuppa tea, a scone and enjoy the journey.

While participating in the annual Charleston Point-to-Point Horse Race, Theodosia Browning discovers the lifeless body of her arch nemesis, Abby Davis. Abby’s brother, Jory knows Theodosia very well. They dated. When Jory asks Theodosia to investigate Abby’s murder, she may discover more than she can handle.
This is a great edition to a wonderful mystery series. I love the plot. It is filled with twists and red herrings that keep you off the track of the real culprit. Then, I was surprised by the revelation at the end. I love how the author used her settings as characters themselves. You get a complete picture of Charleston without leaving the comfort of your home.

Since I love the added information relating to Tea, the series to a total winner. I hungrily read each in series and attempt to read in sequential pattern but not necessary . Characters get to be old acquaintances if not killed off.

Oolong Dead is the tenth book in Laura Childs' Indigo Tea Shop Mystery series featuring Theodosia (Theo) Browning as the shop's proprietor and sleuth. In this book Theo is asked to do a luncheon to benefit the Charleston Opera Society. However, before that takes place Theo is riding in a horse event when her horse balks and refuses to jump. Theo knows that she is going to get thrown and kicks free of the stirrups and tucks and rolls to minimize her injuries. When she is able to look around to see what startled her horse she sees the body of Abby Davis with a bullet hole in her head. Theo and Abby did not have a friendly relationship and the last time that they met Abby tried to goad Theo into a cat fight but Theo would not engage. Abby was also the sister of Theo's ex-boyfriend, Jory.

Much to Theo's surprise both Jory and Detective Tidwell ask Theo to investigate. Of course investigating gets Theo into trouble and nearly killed but her resourcefulness and some dumb luck help her out. Parker her present boyfriend gets his nose out of joint at one point but proves that he is the better man by at least giving lip service to the fact that Theo is her own woman.

I enjoy these books for their sense of place and their characters. That being said I felt that this book was a little character light. I think that it is great that there are recipes included in each book and suggestions for tea parties and resources for more tea related info. This book included a little info about the Gullah culture. I would not mind hearing more about the Gullah in future books.

I just love the teashop mystery series by Laura Childs. I've been to that area of the country, bought a Sweetgrass basket from a roadside vendor lady, and breathed in the sumptuous fragrant air. Perhaps that's why I love them so. Who knows. What I do know is I find Laura Childs an authoress who thinks very much like I do and therefore I find her books very easy to read. I've already finished the book! I just received it in my mail on February 23rd or so.

To me I got impatient because the story line seemed to be stretched out. I do like Laura Childs stories about the Tea Shop Mystery. This story just was not for me.

Why do tall these heroines all have to do such stupid things??? One would think that she is old enough to know better or ask for help… Still a pleasant read so I will keep on reading all the other ones.
