About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The sixth book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.

“The large scope of the novel allows Gabaldon to do what she does best, paint in exquisite detail the lives of her characters.”—Booklist

The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest.

With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence—with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.

Diana Gabaldon is one of my favorite writers. I have read all the Outlander books.. A Breath of Snow and Ashes is one of the best novels I have ever read. The early books were good but she keeps getting better. Her characters are deep and complex. Actions may be unexpected but make perfect sense in light of the motivation of the individual. It is unusual in that it portrays a passionate relationship between two mature individuals. Both are capable people able to stand alone. Together they are much more.. Each one trusts the othe absolutely. If you don't mind dipping into an ongoing story A Breath of Snow and Ashes could be a good place to start.

Diana Gabaldon is the best author I've ever read. She not only has a way of letting you feel like you actually know the main characters; she also sets the scene so explicitly you can visualize the characters actions as though you were there. I love the fact that her books are long as I never want them to end. And enjoyed the part where Jamie and I believe it was Lord John were discussing whether some books were too long and Jamie said it depended upon whether it was a good book or not. Then he went on to say that it also depended on how much time one had to read said book. ( He was in Ardsmuir Prison at the time indicating of course that he had the time.) I have learned a great deal about history and enhanced my own vocabulary from reading her works. I hope she is currently writing more books at this time. But with the success of the Outlander series on Starz, she probably doesn't need to. God Bless her! She has earned every bit of wealth and prosperity that she now should have.

Multi-generational series spanning 5 decades...full of adventure, romance, magic, tragedy, and redemption. The charactors become part of your family...each one comes so alive you expect to see them around each corner. When I wasn't up all night reading these stories, I was dreaming about them. (With a Scottish accent! ) My favorite series by far!
