Like a sun-kissed vacation, Dana Reinhardt’s novel had us hoping it would never end. Unfolding over the course of seven days, Tomorrow There Will Be Sun is the story of Jenna, a tightly wound author who throws a 50th-birthday celebration for her husband, Peter, at a beachfront villa in Mexico. Also along for the ride are the couple’s moody teen daughter, Clementine; Peter’s gregarious best friend (and business partner), Solly; Solly’s gorgeous second wife, Ingrid; and Solly’s two sons. Let’s just say that Jenna’s dream trip doesn’t go according to plan, morphing into a page-turning, often hilarious mess of margaritas, crossed wires, and explosive secrets. Reinhardt’s story is pure entertainment, but it isn’t shallow: Jenna’s emotional turmoil feels totally lived-in and relatable.

Reinhardt, the author of such young adult titles as 2016's Tell Us Something True, makes a successful leap to adult fiction with this vibrant chronicle of two couples navigating tensions on a vacation in Mexico. Writer Jenna Carlson books a luxury villa for her husband Peter's 50th birthday. Jenna's both fond and resentful of Peter's charismatic best friend and business partner, Solly Solomon, who's also celebrating his 50th. Years ago, Solly left Jenna's close friend Maureen for the younger Ingrid, who accompanies them to Puerto Vallarta. Jenna exercises her control-freak tendencies on her obnoxious 16-year-old daughter Clem, whose texts she monitors via an app. Also on the trip is Malcolm, Solly and Maureen's good-natured 17-year-old son, who's gotten into some trouble at his school. Peter's beautiful assistant Gavriella won't stop calling him; Jenna interrogates him and takes his nonanswer to mean that Solly is having an affair and Peter is covering for him. Jenna's insecurities are further triggered when Ingrid reveals that she's written a book that, after Jenna reads it, turns out to be quite good, while Jenna continues to struggle with writer's block. Her well-meaning, busybody nature leads her to confrontations with both Clem regarding cheating on her boyfriend with Malcolm and Ingrid, the results of which force Jenna to reflect on her blind spots. Reinhardt adroitly navigates the mind of a memorable and unreliable narrator and delivers a page-turner that's both charming and thoughtful.

LOVED this book!!
For a debut novel, this is outstanding! I love beautiful beaches with clear, colorful water and have always been curious what spending a vacation in one of those huge, luxury homes would be like, so I was immediately enamored of the descriptions of this vacation destination! I was so sucked into their world and vacation and personalities that I read this in one Saturday. I want a sequel now, hopefully including the owner of the "perfect villa." I can't wait for your next book!!
Still waiting for something to happen
I finished this book in 2 hours. I kept reading because i was waiting for something, anything to happen. What I believe the author considered to be a big twist at the end, fell so incredibly flat. Do yourself a favor and skip this book unless you want to read 179 pages about absolutely nothing.
