Spud - The Madness Continues Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 408 ratings

The record-breaking, best-selling sequel to Spud!

It's 1991, and John "Spud" Milton's journey to manhood is still creeping along at a snail's pace. Nearly 15, Spud's starting his second year at boarding school and - to his utter mortification - he's still a spud!

To make things worse, his dorm mates, the legendary Crazy Eight, have an unusual new member (Roger the cat), and his house is home to a new batch of unruly first-years. Spud is soon plagued with women trouble, coerced into expulsion-worthy adventures, and frustrated to find his dreams of fame in tatters after landing the part of the Dove of Peace in a disastrous production of Noah's Ark.

Join Spud as he takes another tentative step forward while all around him the madness continues....

If you ever spent any time in boarding school or come from a slightly dysfunctional family then you will relate to this story. You will pee yourself laughing whether you are young or old. My friends and family who have also read this book enjoyed it just as much as I did and it is every bit as good as the first book in the series. This book has to win hands down for the funniest ending ever. Absolutely loved it!!!!!!!!!!!

John van de Ruit is an amazing writer. Full stop. I started reading this book and I couldn't put it down! I read the whole thing in two days! And when I heard that there are two more books after it, I bought them immediately and after just a morning of reading, I'm halfway though Learning to fly. These books are brilliant! Well worth the read!

The Spud series carries on, with plenty of absurd moments. It is a book that should bring many smiles as you read it. However, this sequel is not as light-hearted as the original book. For instance, our protagonist is often overly absorbed with puberty.

The Spud books are delightful. If I had been a young boy at boarding school, the stories might be trite but from the distance of a US female, the entire series is wonderfully entertaining. In addition, I recommend these to Americans to open a window on the cultural challenges South Africa has dealt with over the past 20 years as well as to enjoy a good story.

I did enjoy the first of the series, called Spud/ This second book, Spud-The Madness Continues, is very similar to the first, there is only so much mischief the boys can get up to and that makes this book a little boring. It is written in the same line as the first, they simply add another layer of boys to the mix and that is about it. I read it, I finished it, but I won't buy the next book in the series.

Thoroughly amusing coming of age story every bit as good as the first book. Recommend for all ages. Have now read the full series three times

I love being drawn into Spud's crazy home and school life! An easy read with loads of laughs.... especially enjoyed the trip down memory lane with REM - Losing my Religion! Definitely worth it!

This is one of the best realistic-fictional books I’ve ever read. Somewhat relatable, too. Nothing more to say than awesome.

This book is one of series of 4 and this review is really a summary of all four. I was introduced to "spud" while holidaying in the author's homeland of South Africa. I read the first book and could not put it down - I literally laughed til my sides hurt to the bemusement of my family. The book certainly revived my interest in reading books.

Have purchased and read all four now and the laughs (and some sadness) continue throughout the series. As some have already said, you will either love them or hate them but if you do love them you really will love them.

as Simon Cowell might say "I didn't like them - I loved them!"
