Great book! Well thought out!
Great opinions and great story!
Fast Start, Slow Finish
The book starts off great with the Marcellus taking us through his upbringing in South Central, LA through being selected with the 52nd pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 1997 draft. He does a fantastic job describing his upbringing in detail. For example he and his older sister had to put up with gang members jumping them after school for several weeks in a row. His uncles, who were certified gang members put a stop to the bullying.... He later lost all three uncles to unrelated accidents. Not long after the draft, the book begins to get bland. Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the book isn’t all bad, but for most of the remaining chapters, Marcellus does just what he does on television..... He starts to ramble on and on about nothing little to nothing often leaving the reader/viewer confused. Marcellus seems to think that the more words you use to convey a message the better it sounds. In my opinion if you’re the author as well as the narrator, I should not know that you are reading your own story.
