About this ebook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon returns to her Outlander universe in “The Space Between,” an irresistible novella brimming with adventure, history, and suspense.

Joan MacKimmie is on her way to Paris to take up her vocation as a nun. Yet her decision is less a matter of faith than fear, for Joan is plagued by mysterious voices that speak of the future, and by visions that mark those about to die. The sanctuary of the nunnery promises respite from these unwanted visitations . . . or so she prays. Her chaperone is Michael Murray, a young widower who, though he still mourns the death of his wife, finds himself powerfully drawn to his charge. But when the time-traveling Comte St. Germain learns of Joan’s presence in Paris, and of her link to Claire Fraser—La Dame Blanche—Murray is drawn into a battle whose stakes are not merely the life but the very soul of the Scotswoman who, without even trying, has won his heart.

I think Gabaldon is an amazing talent, fluid with story lines, characters and plots which defy reality. However, I've sworn off reading (and buying) these little in-between novellas as well as the Outlander Companion. It's simple math. I appreciate an author must market their work to be successful, but a few dozen pages comprised solely of tacked on back story personas has pushed that franchise into the dirt for me. I have a modest lifestyle and feel unsettled by spending hard-earned cash on stories that go nowhere and are sold only as add-on titles playing hard off the primary characters, Claire and Jamie. Either tell the story and be done with it or create entirely new material in that same page-turning form, which keeps the material fresh and the prices fair. Little snippets of fiction that are mere fractions in scope and size of the original series isn't a strategy I will buy into. Gabaldon has made a fortune from her big books. Enough is enough. I'm done with her.

Let me first say, I have not read this book. But the summary alone is enough to have me up in arms. I am so incredibly disappointed in the very premise of this book. Killing Michael's wife (and God only knows what happened to their son, Benjamin) was cruel, and throwing him into this mess with a girl who is technically his cousin is ridiculous. The girl (conveniently named Joan) is channeling Joan of Arc? The Comte St. Germain is quite dead, and how in the Holy Hell is he time-travelling? I love the Outlander series, I do. I enjoy Diana Gabaldon's work. But I refuse to swallow whatever crap is thrown at me simply because it is in name related to Jamie and Claire. At risk of alienating myself from my prior claims, I feel as though it is cheap and pandering of Ms. Gabaldon to have even entertained such an idea, let alone written and made money from it. I have seen better-based fanfiction than this.

A sideline, or dirversion. A back story on the minor characters from 'Outlander'. The plots & twists that Ms. Gabaldon takes you on have you always wanting more. Can never get enough of her books.
