About this ebook

Fantasy meets crime caper in the first book of a landmark, enduringly popular epic series about a roguish group of conmen, which George R. R. Martin has called “fresh, original, and engrossing . . . gorgeously realized.”

An orphan’s life is harsh—and often short—in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges relentless danger, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentlemen Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game—or die trying.

Google suggested this because I read the Martin Laurence's "Prince of Thorns". Maybe it was simply the contrast with that wonderfull series but, the charicters seem 2 dimentional, the action is flat and I couldn't bring myself to care...spent the last 100 pages wishing it would end and I was glad when it did.

There are a few things about this book that prevent me from calling it a perfect read. Most of them are spoilers, but one is the use of modern cursing. It feels sort of out of place and pulls me out of the immersive world. The few drawbacks aside, it's a great read wherein a few twists throw you for a loop and the well fleshed out characters give you something to hold on to and enjoy. I look forward to reading the next book as The Lies of Locke Lamora has proven itself as being a must read.

Great story and characters. Love the unique universe the author has created. However, I can't recommend this book to anyone I know. The prolific, no excessive use of the f-word completely ruined what would have been a great experience. I wish I could have known beforehand. I wouldn't have wasted my time.
