About this ebook

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • “Steven Pressfield brings the battle of Thermopylae to brilliant life.”—Pat Conroy

At Thermopylae, a rocky mountain pass in northern Greece, the feared and admired Spartan soldiers stood three hundred strong. Theirs was a suicide mission, to hold the pass against the invading millions of the mighty Persian army.

Day after bloody day they withstood the terrible onslaught, buying time for the Greeks to rally their forces. Born into a cult of spiritual courage, physical endurance, and unmatched battle skill, the Spartans would be remembered for the greatest military stand in history—one that would not end until the rocks were awash with blood, leaving only one gravely injured Spartan squire to tell the tale. . . .

I read Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield because I watched Lone Survivor recently where a navy seal tells about his horrific experience in the mountains of northeast Afganastan. One of the men that was killeds favorite book was the Gates of Fire. I now know why.

Give this book a try. You will not regret it. Especially if you are a soldier/warrior. The book at times makes tou want to cry and other moments encourages and motivates. It really is one of, if not the best book I have read.

I was consumed with this book. Certain parts strained my comprehension, but it is one of the most amazing pieces of literature I have read. This is like the brainchild of Homer and Machiavelli
