Publisher Description

At the front of a middle school classroom in Oklahoma, a boy named Khosrou (whom everyone calls "Daniel") stands, trying to tell a story. His story. But no one believes a word he says. To them he is a dark-skinned, hairy-armed boy with a big butt whose lunch smells funny; who makes things up and talks about poop too much. But Khosrou's stories, stretching back years, and decades, and centuries, are beautiful, and terrifying, from the
moment his family fled Iran in the middle of the night with the secret police moments behind them, back to the sad, cement refugee camps of Italy...and further back to the fieldsnear the river Aras, where rain-soaked flowers
bled red like the yolk of the sunset had burst over everything, and further back still to the jasmine-scented city of Isfahan. Like Scheherazade in a hostile classroom, Daniel weaves a tale to save his own life: to stake his claim to the truth. And it is (a true story).

Amazing book!

This book is a bit slow but is a amazing and inspiring refugee story that is very deep and funny at times. Would highly recommend for people who can sit down and really take the time to understand the story and the meaning of it. ( btw I love this narrator he is very methodical and soft sounding).10/10)

One of my new favorite books of all time!

This book was so interactive, that's the only way I can think to explain it. The author automatically transports you into their shoes and makes things that most of us don't know about totally relatable. I never write book reviews, but I felt like I had to! I don't even know if this will ever be read by anyone, but if you're looking to the reviews for opinions, mine says read asap. This is so relatable for people of all ages, genders, etc. Heavy topics are discussed, but the delivery is so sincere and is broken up by so much laughter and sweet stories. You're left wanting more everytime you have to stop listening. I love the inclusion of culture and religion, but not to the point where were diving into theology or excluding other opinions. I would feel totally comfortable recommending this to a friend who's not a Christian. Soooo yes, I fell in love with it right away!! So wholesome, makes you think back on your own memories and be so thankful that we have a God that speaks and listens!

P.s. That last bit will make even more sense if you listen to the book! 😂

Inspiring story

I loved this memoir. I loved the fact the author is telling his story from the perspective of his childhood self! His story was interesting, funny, sad, and inspiring! Thank you
Daniel for sharing.
