Unnecessarily long and repetitive
I wanted to love this book so bad but the main character seems to be incredibly annoying to me and she just is the I’m not like other girls kind of character and it’s so annoying and I feel like it took a really long time for her to put the pieces together about her stepmother, and the entire end of the book was super rushed and the fact that it took her so long to figure out that Zirena was a bad guy really annoyed me. It also incredibly annoyed me that you reminded constantly how many brothers she has over and over and over again and then I know it’s just the story but the brothers have such ridiculous names. Why do they all sound exactly alike and at one point or another? I kind of thought that she was trying to compare her betrothed to her brothers, which is just incredibly weird and also, if I had a dollar for every time she reminded you that Takkan is her betrothed or just how many times it’s repeated, the book and the audiobook could pay for itself and it left off on the worst cliffhanger. I’m gonna finish the second book only because I need to know what happens but I’m probably not gonna like that one anymore than this one because I’ve heard that Elizabeth Lim’s second books are usually flops.
