As an adult reader, it's easy enough to figure out the mystery, but it's still one of the stronger mystery series for the upper elementary audience, it is intelligent without being full of the heavier stuff that comes with most middle grade mysteries. Alibis, red herrings, etc. are mentioned. The kids do enough sleuthing on their own to be heroes but always try to remain responsible and not do reckless things and adults and police are involved to an extent. Both Mike and Kate have their strengths and weaknesses, there is no boy vs. girl rivalry here, no potty humor, nothing feels dumbed-down for kids. We've been looking forward to this new release for months and the timing is perfect for Black History Month as the always informative back matter includes information about Hank Aaron, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement as well as notable landmarks about Atlanta pertaining to these individuals. (Fun fact: as a kid, David Kelly actually got to meet Hank Aaron!)

Thank you, David Kelly, for continuing to write this series! It is a favorite for my eight-year-old. We hope you have many more books to come :-)
