The sample of this book was good, just interesting enough that I thought I'd buy the book. The next page after the sample is like a completely different book. The rest of the book (so far, I honestly can't bring myself to finish it.) is like reading someone's journal. It's not a Bridget Jones type journal where it is obviously written for the third person and all the details are spelled out for you. This is literally like someone's journal where they only write things they want to remember later, so nothing makes 100% sense. I've tried to pick this up and get through more than a few pages at a time but I'm finally giving up. I always finish books no matter what, but this is now the exception. I'm on page 100 something and don't want to even bother making it to page 500 and whatever to finish it to make sense of it.
About the author
Lauren Owen was born in 1985. She studied at Oxford University and the University of East Anglia, where she received the 2009 Curtis Brown Prize for the best fiction dissertation. The Quick is her first novel. She lives in Northern England.
