The same characters we know and like...but the story lacks the substance that Briggs normally has. It feels like she had a deadline and no story, so she added a bunch of random filler. No twists and turns, the so-obvious-it-must-be-a-red-herring bad guy actually is the bad guy, and the conclusion weeps with dios ex. We meet a bunch of random, clunky-short-story style characters, wondering how the seemingly unrelated subplots tie into the main story in some artful web..turns out they don't. Skip this one.

Action was rushed, story was too short with too many sideplots and new characters, not enough time to Charles & Anna. Their relationship issue was solved in too pat a way, and there was no attempt to dig deeper into the why's of the Big Bads after the initial crisis was solved. Very one dimensional and rushed, overall, seemed more like an excuse for Briggs to write about horses than continue these characters' and this universe's actual stories.

Yes it has lots of horse info, wasn't bored by it like a few quibblers. A good author educates as they entertain. That said, found it fairly fast paced. Read it in one day, literally couldn't put it down! A lot of action packed into a couple days and a look into the painful choices couples who can't conceive make to have family.
