About this ebook

In the conclusion of Alastair Reynolds’ epic Poseidon’s Children saga, the Akinya family receives an invitation from across the stars—and a last opportunity to redeem their name...

Send Ndege...

The cryptic message originated seventy light-years away from the planet Crucible, where Ndege Akinya lives under permanent house arrest for her role in the catastrophe that killed 417,000 people. Could it be from her mother, Chiku, who vanished during a space expedition decades earlier?

Ndege’s daughter, Goma, a biologist, joins the crew of the Travertine, dispatched to Gliese 163 to uncover the source behind the enigmatic message.

Goma’s odyssey will take her not only into the furthest reaches of space but centuries into her family’s past where the answers to the universe’s greatest mysteries await...

I've been reading Alastair Reynolds books for like 9 years. There are only a few others authors who have so consistently sustained my trust. His sense of realism is unlike any in the industry. His futures are not jaded by modern space cliches -- each feels intuitive, tangible, and a bit scary. He creates fair, complex rules, and plays by those rules with intellect & grace. At his best, his ideas stir up new inquiries for philosophy, and when more common, reading Alastair is thoroughly enjoyable -- as his writing sparks all forms of curiosity. My favorite aspect of his work, is that he rarely backs down from the simulation of cataclysmic events. He always plays out his wild scenarios, and allows his world & characters to respond to these absurdities -- it's great entertainment. There is little doubt that Alastair is one of the great science fiction authors of our time -- the future is obvious to him -- and he makes it easy to see how we'll get there.

The book was a great continuation but I feel there need to be one more to finalize some points. Maybe that's just me!

Good story and storytelling, character development and emotion... a little short on hard science.
