About this ebook

"A major new voice in southern fiction."—Elin Hilderbrand, New York Times bestselling author

From the New York Times bestselling author of Under the Southern Sky and The Wedding Veil comes a moving debut novel about two mothers—one biological and one adoptive.

One baby girl.
Two strong Southern women.
And the most difficult decision they’ll ever make.

Frances “Khaki” Mason has it all: a thriving interior design career, a loving husband and son, homes in North Carolina and Manhattan—everything except the second child she has always wanted. Jodi, her husband’s nineteen-year-old cousin, is fresh out of rehab, pregnant, and alone. Although the two women couldn’t seem more different, they forge a lifelong connection as Khaki reaches out to Jodi, encouraging her to have her baby. But as Jodi struggles to be the mother she knows her daughter deserves, she will ask Khaki the ultimate favor...

Written to baby Carolina, by both her birth mother and her adoptive one, this is a story that proves that life circumstances shape us but don’t define us—and that families aren’t born, they’re made...

Dear Carolina is Southern fiction at its best....Beautifully written.”—New York Timesbestselling author Eileen Goudge

Dear Carolina is an ambitious first book for a young Author indeed, and a book well done. Two mothers different by circumstance, holding space for each other with similar heart, one a biological mother, the other the adoptive mother each tell a love story to their child. This young author has written a story of families coming together in support of each other; it's a story of pain, heartbreak, renewals and love. Written in beautiful southern voice, it is lyrical. The strength of the women, the richness of the characters traveling this story is beautiful, and it's lovely and it's brave. It is a book well worth reading for the writing and the story. I enjoyed Dear Carolina by Kristy Woodson Harvey. I'd recommend to anyone who believes family doesn't just mean blood relations.

I usually don't care for books where alternating voices trade in each chapter. This one however was extremely well written. Often it seems like the author uses that writing style to plump up the word count in the book by having the characters rehash the same scene from both perspectives. In this book, each chapter advanced the story as I watched the characters develop into the well rounded people they ultimately became.

Dear Carolina written by the very talented Kristy Woodson Harvey.  This is a book worthy of a full box of tissues!! This is a debut novel from Kristy Woodson Harvey and she totally rocked it!!! The story is about two mothers and one baby girl.  The chapters alternate between the voices of the biological mother and  the adoptive mother. Both are strong Southern women. You will love both Jodi; the birth mother; she’s young, she’s  very naïve and very short on self-worth. You’ll love the adoptive mother, Khaki equally as much; Khaki is so loving, so full of life  and so caring. They each write to Carolina about her birth story in their own voice; all the while telling Carolina about themselves. Ohhhh what a beautifully written story!!   This story is written with humor, compassion, devotion, pain, heartbreak and LOVE!!! This is a book you will want to savor because THIS is how a family is made!! Dear Carolina is such a very sweet story that WILL touch you all the way to your soul!
