About this ebook

New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr turns up the heat in a smoking hot, emotionally compelling romance that takes you into the world of Manhattan’s elite.

Meet Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, brooding entrepreneur who goes after what he wants, and Phoebe St. Claire, a socialite-turned-CEO who’s been drifting through life searching for something she thought she'd never find again—the right man to share her future.

Phoebe St. Claire has devoted herself to saving her family’s hotel empire—but her best efforts have not been good enough. With her whole world in turmoil, the tenacious go-getter turns to the once love of her life. Far from innocent, Jeremy McQueen was a guy from the wrong side of the tracks and her parents would never have approved. Their years apart have only made the sexy bad boy more irresistible than ever—and their reunion is explosive.

When she asks Jeremy to help her salvage her family business, he agrees immediately, with only one condition—he wants her in his bed.

But soon surprising circumstances leave Phoebe reeling. Was this fairy tale romance just too good to be true? Will Jeremy’s secrets pull them apart all over again?

NO CLIFFHANGER.  STANDALONE ROMANCE.

I absolutely adore second chance romances. There's just something about past loves reconnecting that is extra special. I always feel like they're more passionate than romances where the characters are meeting for the first time. Toxic was extremely passionate. You wouldn't think a love story with the title Toxic would work. After all toxic is not a good descriptive word. However, Jeremy and Phoebe don't have your typical love story and I think the title worked out perfectly. I loved Phoebe. She's determined to do right by her family's legacy. She's tenacious but kind. I loved her work ethic. Jeremy was a bit of a mystery. I really liked him in the flashback to the past, but I wasn't sure about him when he and Phoebe reconnected. He was protective of her, but then he was also reserved. I wasn't sure if he was all into her again or if he was biding his time for revenge. Jeremy also worked hard and it showed in the success he'd achieved. They were both similar in how they handled things. Both were quick to react first. They also had trust issues. Of course it didn't help that those issues were fueled by past loves/dalliances who were still in their lives. The story was great. For those who don't like a book flashing back and forth from the past to the present, you won't have a problem because the past was neatly contained. It was thorough as well. I didn't really understand why what split them apart was such a big deal until later on in the book. Then it made sense. I liked the mix of romance and mystery/suspense.Another thing I really loved about this book was Phoebe's friends. I wouldn't mind reading stories set around them. The chemistry Phoebe and Jeremy had was obvious, right from the beginning. I liked that they tried to temper it but weren't able to. I also liked seeing Phoebe and Jeremy work out their problems, but then they kept having the same problem over and over again. By the end of the book I was really ready for them to figure it out. Lol. One of the messages I got from this book was it's never too late to fix a mistake. It wasn't just Jeremy and Phoebe who made mistakes, or their friends, but the people they admired and loved made them too. I also loved the concept of trying again and again, and the power of trust and believing. I think this is my favorite book by Kim Karr. I think it'll become one of your favorites too!
