Publisher Description
The explosive new thriller from New York Times-bestselling author and master of the medical thriller Robin Cook.
Newly minted chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital Noah Rothauser is swamped in his new position, from managing the surgical schedules to dealing with the fallouts from patient deaths. Known for its medical advances, the famed teaching hospital has fitted several ORs as “hybrid operating rooms of the future”—an improvement that seems positive until an anesthesia error during a routine procedure results in the death of an otherwise healthy man. Noah suspects Dr. William Mason, an egotistical, world-class surgeon, of an error during the operation and of tampering with the patient’s record afterward. But Mason is quick to blame anesthesiologist, Dr. Ava London.
When more anesthesia-related deaths start to occur, Noah is forced to question all of the residents on his staff, including Ava, and he quickly realizes there’s more to her than what he sees. A social-media junkie, Ava has created multiple alternate personas for herself on the Internet. With his own job and credibility now in jeopardy, Noah must decide which doctor is at fault and who he can believe—before any more lives are lost.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Dr. Noah Rothauser, the lead of this suspenseful medical thriller from bestseller Cook (Host), is thrilled to become the chief resident at Boston Memorial, one of the country's preeminent teaching hospitals. The one cloud on the horizon is the recent death, during surgery, of popular employee Bruce Vincent, who was in charge of the hospital's parking division. Boston Memorial's prima donna surgeon, William Mason, performed the surgery on Vincent at the same time as he was conducting other operations, a practice known as concurrent surgeries. To shield himself from attack, Mason insists that Noah focus the hospital's review of what led to Vincent's death on the anesthesiologist. Despite Mason's threat that disregarding his wishes will affect Noah's career, the younger doctor pursues the truth, even as two shadowy hit men build a body count in a subplot whose relevance emerges in tantalizing increments. While most readers will be a step ahead of the sometimes naive Noah, everyone will be rooting for this sympathetic character.
Customer Reviews
All over the place
None of the characters were likeable, especially the protagonist. He was written more like a teenaged boy than a doctor. I found the premise to be ridiculous.....it was hardly believable. I enjoyed the writing itself, the story, not so much.
What ending
Not worth the money spent
Do not waste your time and money
I have never before felt compelled to write a review on what I've read. Opinions are subjective - that's the beauty. However, this is by far the most ridiculous excuse for a book that I have ever read. I sincerely hope that Robin Cook is well compensated. Otherwise it's a waste for everyone.
