Villa Incognito

This was only the 2nd Tom Robbins novel I've read, the other being "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates". While I find the 1st a riot, I found this selection was not my cup of tea. I did, however, appreciate the narration. I though the narrator did a fantastic job. I just found the topic a bit over the top, even from Robbins, for my tastes.

This was an awesome book. This was my first introduction to Robbins and since then I have read about 5 others and I enjoy them all. Robbins is a very witty author who knows how to grab you into his story keeping you there over night and making you late for work. I can't wait for his next novel.

Like all Robbins you must completely let your sense of logic go for this book. It's full of bizzare characters, philosophy, mysticism and quite a few random instances. A entertaining story, but not for those looking for a simple story that can be easily understood and doesn't require deep thought.

I know a lot of people love this book and this author, but I just couldn't get into it. The narrarator is fabulous (love his accents), but the writing style is too "over the top" for me. I kept finding my mind drifting and then I'd have to rewind to catch what I missed. The story just drags.... Maybe if I had stuck with it, but it wasn't compelling enough. Also, I found the characters confusing. Just not my cup of tea.

I would never have read this book after first ten pages and was willing to hear the entire book. Interesting and disjointed.

For anyone who has visited Maui, traversing a highway packed with tourists is challenging and it closes often. The narrator was excellent, even with his accents, and the first few sentences were enough for my newfound addiction to Robbins' writing style. The story kept my road rage at bay, even after 3 hours of stalled traffic. A must for those not easily offended by lewd language and obscene stories!

Another excellent Robbins book! Although not his best, it still hums with skewed descriptions and mounds of philosophic belly-button lint. The story is not compelling, but then, it's not about that. I can describe this book in one word, but you'll have to guess it....Here's a clue: the word rhymes with "orange".....

This book, like all of Robbins's books, is bizarre and hilarious. I love Tom Robbins, and I've read many of his books; this certainly isn't my favorite, but it was good enough that I went everywhere in headphones until I finished it.

I found this book highly entertaining - thanks to the fantastic skills of the reader - he made every character distinct without being stereotypical. Robbins has written a book that makes you think as well as laugh. I loved it!

I don't know... the story started out interesting but I missed a few days of listening and could not get back into it. If you listen to books every day you may be able to avoid this problem.

What a strange story, beginning in the depths of the jungle with a strange little animal and ending with a drug bust. But this tale is not at all innocent, or for the faint of heart. It is very offensive at times. But the author weaved a very interesting story with a complex crew of characters.
