About this audiobook

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The astonishing and hugely entertaining story that completely changed the way we run. An epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt?

“Equal parts quest, physiology treatise, and running history.... The climactic race reads like a sprint.... It simply makes you want to run.” —Outside Magazine

Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner Christopher McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to a climactic race in the Copper Canyons that pits America’s best ultra-runners against the tribe. McDougall’s incredible story will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that you, indeed all of us, were born to run.

This book helped me explain why I was already running in minimal shoes. It also led to my ultrarunning obsession. It's a great story mixed with interesting tidbits about running barefoot and the history of ultrarunning. I've listened to it multiple times while out on runs and it always delivers. I only wish it was read by the author like "Running with Sherman".

This book is essential to everyone. Why on Earth does every single shoe have a lifted heel? That's not how our feet are made. Why do our feet hurt all the time? How did humans EVER survive prehistoric times? Are we really do physically handicapped? If you believe in God as I do, this book still answers key questions I have had about God's design. And if you don't, then it answers the "how the hell (whoops, you don't believe in hell) did we ever survive long enough to be smart" question. And finally... Since our feet are our foundation, were we all born to run? Can't recommend this book enough. I listened to it 4 times, back to back, and I'll be listening some more.
