Most of this book concerns the stodgy letterforms, Gothic and Celtic, and only in the last few pages does the author address italic writing. So much of the instructional material belabors obvious points: "lift the pen off the paper...put the pen down on the paper." Is this necessary?

I need to get to work. I used to do calligraphy when I was young and this
book is by far the best calligraphy book I have ever seen....
