The Harlem Hellfighters

Unfortunately I did not receive my book yet and will return to add my book review. I chose to write at this time due to a comment that the accomplishments of the 369th could not be true. As the fourth Commander to take the unit to war - Operation Iraqi Freedom - 2004-2005, I can assure you that the 369th at the time of WWI, an Infantry Regiment, did in fact accomplished many firsts. There are still 168 soldiers of the unit buried in France. My unit on a training exercise to Germany visited the grave sites and placed flags on the plots. That trip was well documented on the Military Network. The negative attitudes faced by the unit then is still in existence today. Because I am well versed in the history of the unit, I feel obligated to come back and share an honest opinion. Until then. I implore you to conduct your own research to see the challenges that were overcome by such courageous men. Irv Donaldson

i can't explain the feeling while reading this. Feels as if you're right there experiencing the pain, racism. You can smell the rotting flesh, the musty morning fog. You feel the rage, the fear that these heroes endured. A great and informative way to learn about this world changing historical event. at first, I was only interested in reading this graphic novel because Max Brooks wrote it. It did not take long for me to forget about who wrote it V.S. who the story is about. Great read.
