Summary
A 'dreamlike and compelling” tour de force (Chicago Tribune)—an astonishingly imaginative detective story, an account of a disintegrating marriage, and an excavation of the buried secrets from Japan’s forgotten campaign in Manchuria during World War II.

Now with a new introduction by the author.

In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

The narrator was actually amazing. One of the best narrations I've encountered. Even with the female voices he did an excellent job!

With so many characters, you’d need 10 narrators if you had a problem with a single person doing all the voices. I thought he did an excellent job. This was a hard to put down adventure. I suppose it ended the only way it could. Quite a ride.

I love this book. So much do I love this book that I suffered through a full day of the narrator. It's taken me years to be able to read this book again without hearing his voice narrating the female characters. It pretty bad. Word of advice for male narrators: just don't try to sound like a woman. It's never going to come off right.
