I have loved Pride and Prejudice since I was a child and have read every possible adaptation I have been able to get my hands on. I found more merit with even Pride and Prejudice and Zombies than I did with this pathetic adaptation. At least that author used most of the original dialogue. I can't believe that this novel here would even pass as an adaptation and not a total fanfiction rewrite. Elizabeth Bennett having casual sex with not only Wickham but also DARCY?! Jane getting artificially inseminated and then having sex with Bingley on the first date? Not to mention one of the other sisters marrying a transvestite and the complete non-need to make the Bennets Republican and racist? The beauty of Austen's material is that the core issues are just as relevant today as when the book is set. There is absolutely no reason to completely change the characters which is what this shoddy, pandering piece of trash had done. I want my money back. Jane Austen is rolling over in her grave.

This was pretty entertaining. I enjoyed noticing each way that the author made the characters modern and different from their original counterparts. The father was a hoot for sure. The author did a great job of fitting all the drama from the current era.

Curtis Sittenfeld is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Prep, The Man of My Dreams, American Wife, Sisterland, and Eligible, and the story collection You Think It, I’ll Say It, which have been translated into thirty languages.
