The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher and Love Your Life returns with another laugh-out-loud Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) adventure: a hilarious road trip through the American West to Las Vegas.

“Sophie Kinsella keeps her finger on the cultural pulse, while leaving me giddy with laughter.”—Jojo Moyes, author of The Giver of Stars and The Last Letter from Your Lover

Becky is on a major rescue mission through the American West to Las Vegas! Her father has vanished from Los Angeles on a mysterious quest with the husband of Becky’s best friend, Suze. Becky’s mum is hysterical; Suze is flat-out desperate. Worse, Becky must tolerate an enemy along for the ride, who she’s convinced is up to no good.

Determined to get to the bottom of why her dad has disappeared, help Suze, contain the dreaded Alicia, and reunite her fractured family, Becky knows that she must marshal all her trademark ingenuity. The result: her most outrageous and daring plan yet!

But just when her family needs her more than ever, can Becky pull it off?

Praise for Shopaholic to the Rescue

“Full of gags, sparkling dialogue and beautifully drawn characters . . . It’s a real treat to be reunited with the eminently loveable, incredibly ditzy and fiercely loyal Shopaholic protagonist Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood).”
Daily Mail

“Will Bex and best friend Suze ever make up? Will Becky’s old nemesis, banker Derek Smeath, finish his memoir? Why can’t our beloved Shopaholic seem to spend any money, even on a $2.50 pencil? . . . This is escapism that will make you giggle out loud.”
—USA Today

“Readers can’t help but be delighted. Kinsella never once loses Becky’s voice and heart, which is one of the joys of the Shopaholic series.”
—Publishers Weekly

“Full of Becky’s outrageous ideas, including a heist à la
Ocean’s Eleven, this novel does not disappoint. . . . Kinsella adds a mystery and twists and turns at every corner in this latest work while maintaining Becky’s signature voice.”—Library Journal

I had sort of given up on the series a while back and I think that this book is for those like me who thought they were done but couldn't resist coming back for more.

Becky's in LA because of Luke's important business and she's out to make it as a celebrity stylist when she gets pulled into a tale of intrigue and woe after spotting a starlet doing something naughty in public. Before Becky knows it, she's whirled into the fake world of celebrity and she's not quite sure how she feels about it as it starts to affect her relationships with those around her, including poor little Minnie. Just kidding, Minnie's always a little trooper.

Meanwhile, Becky invites Suze, Tarquin and the kids to LA for a much needed vacation that quickly goes awry. After all, what could POSSIBLY go wrong with the world's most down-to-earth Lady and the weirdest (maybe) Lord shuttle off to LA for a not-so-quick vaca. ANYTHING. Definitely the unexpected that's for sure.

And last but not least, catching up where we left off at the last book, Becky and her Scooby gang is in an RV ("very American) riding through the United States in search of her father and Tarquin who are on a top secret mission that driven Suze and Becky's mom Jane quite batty. Will they survive? Will Becky ever overcome her desire to buy everything and then one more of EVERYTHING?

This book had me laughing at every turn but what caught me most unexpected was the really broken down Becky at some points in the book. I'm used to the books being lighthearted and perhaps they got a bit too lighthearted for me a while back. This book (I'm not sure if it's the final one or if the series continues) really puts things back on track with all the good characters showing up for posterity and even arch-nemisis Alicia B@tch Long Legs rounding out the crew.

I hesitated buying this after reading the not so great reviews, but am glad that I did in the end. Sure, it was a little haphazard and crazy at times, but so is Becky. I actually liked the crazy twists and turns of the story and how it was all wrapped up in the end. Not to mention the fact that fictional writing is for entertainment and this was truly entertaining. I had purchased Shopaholic to the Stars and finished that and got right into this one to continue the story. I really enjoyed this entire series. It was light and fun, just what life needs sometimes.

As with _Shopaholic to the Stars_, I disagree with some of the reviews of this book. Yes, it's different than earlier books in the series. It isn't really funny. But Bex had a serious epiphany at the end of _To the Stars_. She realizes that when dreams of walking down the red carpet and knowing the A-listers come true, all she's left with is emptiness, loneliness, and guilt. She realizes that what she really needs, what will really make her happy, is what she already has -- the love of her family and closest friends.

If in _To the Rescue_ Bex had immediately returned to being the funny girl focused on style that she had been, the character would have truly been very shallow. Sure, Becky has always like fun material things, and she gets carried away. But in each novel, she demonstrates that she's really a very caring person who wants to help those around her. Considering that the events in _To the Rescue_ occur beginning the day after _To the Stars_, we should have expected that Becky would struggle with what she learned about herself.

One thing I really like about this installment in the series is that Suze and Tarkie are more fleshed out. For once, it's Suze's life that is in a mess, and watching how she deals with her fears makes her a much more interesting character. Tarkie goes through some wonderful changes, and by the end of the novel, he is so much more than that funny looking wimpy guy Suze married.

Also, Danny has more of a role in this novel, and he's always fun to watch. Even Sweetie Smeathy plays a part.

By Christmas, of course, at least several months will have passed since these events. Maybe Becky will go back to being a little more as we've known her in the next installment, and maybe the book will be funnier. But it would have been jarring and untrue to the character's basic nature if she had shrugged off the effects of the epiphany in _To the Stars_ so quickly.

I have to ask again, why haven't any of Kinsella's novels been made into films? Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones books have resulted in successful films, and I think many of Kinsella's novels -- including this series -- would be wonderful on the screen. Come on, Hollywood. Get with it.

I'm a big fan of the Shopaholic series but this one took a whole different direction. It picks up right from "Shopaholic to the Stars" which kind of left things hanging but that one was a pretty good read. Sophie could have wrapped that ending up and left this one alone. The plot was a bit far-fetched, even for Becky. Some if not most of it was just not necessary and the attempt at holding the mystery of what Becky's father was up to was very anti-climatic. Being a fan of this series and Sophie Kinsella, I feel like I know these characters and this book was very "uncharacteristic" of all of them.
That being said, I am currently readying "I've got your number" which is a good read and more of what we're used to.

I have to admit that I downloaded Shopaholic to the Stars but not Shopaholic to the Rescue as I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. That being said, as I neared the end of Shopaholic to the stars and I could see the set up for this book, I downloaded it right away. It was different as it had a bit of intrigue which kept me going. The author stayed true to the characters and even brought back "Alicia". I can't wait and hope the other books in this series follow the same vein.
