Deeper into my process
Apart from having great gems about writing, Writing Down the Bones was fun to read. I would pick it up for 5 or 10 minutes when I was tired or frustrated or about to start a difficult task. It was like talking to a friend. I first found Julia Cameron’s the Artist’s Way 36 years ago, and it opened the door to life as art. Writing Down the Bones felt like a spiritual successor to that for me, taking me deeper down and in to my own process. It cleared space for stuff I have wanted to write forever to come to the surface in a more courageous, direct way. It helped me relate to this force inside, and let it express in the way it wanted to.
