Publisher Description
Love the vintage- not the ghosts
Lily Ivory feels that she can finally fit in somewhere and conceal her "witchiness" in San Francisco. It's there that she opens her vintage clothing shop, outfitting customers both spiritually and stylistically.
Just when things seem normal, a client is murdered and children start disappearing from the Bay Area. Lily has a good idea that some bad phantoms are behind it. Can she keep her identity secret, or will her witchy ways be forced out of the closet as she attempts to stop the phantom?
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
A witch named Lily Ivory moves to San Francisco and opens a vintage clothing store in hopes of settling down, living a normal life, and keeping her supernatural abilities hidden. But when a child is captured by a vengeful spirit and an old woman murdered under mysterious circumstances, Lily has to use her wits, magical powers, and the help of her new friends to solve the case, prevent more deaths (including her own), and banish the evil spirit. Xe Sands provides engaging narration, deftly rendering the likable Lily and easily capturing her charming Texas twang. Sands creates distinctive voices for the other characters as well, including an elderly murder victim and an entertaining gargoyle-like familiar. The novel's pacing translates well to audio, with scenes alternating between Lily's day-to-day life at the vintage clothing store, the suspenseful supernatural mystery, and a budding romance. A Signet paperback.

Entertaining Supernatural Mystery
The first volume in Blackwell's new series is fun and fast-paced. The characters are well-written, and the descriptions of San Francisco make me want to move there. Plus, Blackwell deals respectfully with Wicca, Voudou and folk beliefs and entities (such as La Llorona). Great for curling up on a dreary winter day.
Maybe if I'd READ it
The narrator was not a good choice for the audio. I found myself anxious to hear even one of her bad male impersonations rather than her simpering, purring voice. Really ruin the book which when I could pay attention seemed a nice easy read.
Secondhand Spirits
I bought this because of my love of all things vintage. The description of her quaint shop in San Francisco made me sooo jealous. The rest of the story was ok. Nothing brilliant, but a easy read. Good for sitting on the beach.
