Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

New York City law officers have more technological weapons at their disposal in bestseller Robb's snappy near-future series, but so do criminals, including the sadistic rapist killer who strikes down Deena MacMasters, the 16-year-old daughter of police captain Jonah MacMasters, in the 30th full-length novel to feature homicide detective Lt. Eve Dallas (after Promises in Death). MacMasters specifically asks that Dallas, who has a knack for clever insights and deductions, lead the investigation into his daughter's murder. An impressive team of professionals—augmented by Dallas's husband, Roarke, and his young protégé, Jaime Lingstrom—begins the arduous task of collecting and analyzing data. Clues suggest Deena may not be the only victim targeted by her killer and increase the pressure on Dallas and her cohorts. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) combines sex, horrific crime, forensics and technological wizardry for another winner sure to please her many fans. (Nov.)

Praise for Kindred in Death

“Robb combines sex, horrific crime, forensics and technological wizardry for another winner sure to please her many fans.”—
Publishers Weekly

“The emotional quotient is high in this chapter of the long-running and truly excellent In Death series. One key to its longevity is that each succeeding book adds new layers of complexity to Eve, Roarke and the rest of Robb's supporting players. Robb's ability to take readers from emotional highs to lows and insert a clever mystery is why this series never gets old.”—

I had a really good time, but then I usually do.
Only this time I didn’t find myself wanting to punch Peabody for saying something she shouldn’t.
For the most part I really like Peabody. She helps balance out Eve’s ever rough edges and helps offer a different perspective.
That’s great and often needed. What makes me loathe her at times is her greedy and sometimes selfish/self absorbed nature.
I mean how old is Peabody?
I know she’s younger that’s Eve’s 31/32 years old age,Eve was 30 in the first book and at least two years have passed since, but how old is she ?
She seems reasonably mature at times but she gets her feelings hurt SUPER easily and I stupidly immature at times.
Ex. Let’s say your one of those ppl who believe in that “Hall Pass” BS ,that’s it’s ok to have sex with someone else while your in a supposedly committed relationship,as long as the other person is a famous celebrity or something.
Cue roll so huge it might hurt me
But
Ok
And let’s say your woman and yours is say,Liam Hemsworth.
Ok,is you one day bump into his wife ,would you gauche enough, tacky enough,a big of a jerk enough to tell her ?
Would you be tankless to tell Liam Hemsworth’s wife he’s your “hall pass” and your partner/spouse whatever is ok with you sleeping with him ?
No?
Good.
Good for you . Your a fairly mature human being for someone who wants something like that but Peabody?
Peabody is not. Not only does she drool of Roarke practically every time she sees him but friendship or no,she’s more than once being tacky, tactless and gauche enough to tell her her fantasies about him and told he was her “hall pass” in so many words.
Who. The. Hell. Does. That. Or. Says. That. To a supposed friend?
Every time she dies that or pouts or whines I just want to slap her so hard her teeth rattle.
Deep breath.
Sorry, hadn’t planned on that but there it is.

Enjoyed the story . I often wonder how she gets so many interesting details in .
I love how much Eve and Roarke have grown and changed together in such a short time.
Just wish we got more at the end . We spend so much time with Eve in all the minutia and details in the story as Eve doggedly tracks down this path and that . So much time agonizing over the motives and the murders but not enough time at the end for me seeing the killer pay and watching them sweat 💦 at the end.
Catch them, get them to confess and then it’s over.
This ending was good ,just wish there was a little bit more.

A murder of a young girl, the daughter of a cop, starts a hunt for a killer with an agenda. Why and who are the questions, and more are on his list.
Having read this book several times, it stays as fresh and gripping as it was the first

4.5 stars!

After basically years of seeing this series around and reading about this mystical Roarke, I gave in and decided to read the In Death Books. It was quite an undertaking, since when I started there were 33 books already released in the series, not counting short stories and novellas. Besides that, deciding to read this series was a big commitment in two fronts. One, I simply had to by 33 books and secondly, I would not be reading anything else until I was done. That's how psychotic I can be when it comes to book series.

December 2011 was when my journey began and by February 2012 I was done and now there is NO turning back. I am IN LOVE with this series! I not only obviously love Roarke, but I love Eve and all the secondary characters that make up this great story as well.

Yes, I have become irritated with Eve at times, but I adored being able to see her grow throughout the series. It has been quite a ride, but one I will never regret hopping aboard.

This series is a great mix of mystery, police drama and romance. I love every aspect of it, from the near futuristic setting, to the way J.D. Robb writes her prose. If there is one thing that bothers me, is that considering the series has 35 books published, the span of time that has passed is very short and I wish the lapse between books was a bit longer. But if you read the books throughout a longer period of time, it won't really matter, but reading them so close together made me wish for that longer lapse.

Eve is such a complex character. All that she has been through has made who she is, but her story is not less heartbreaking because of it. For that matter, so is Roarke's and the fact that these two found each other is nothing less than serendipity. They need each other and I am sure they would never have grown to be who they are in the series by book 35, if not for each other's presence in their lives. Not to mention the "family" they have built with their dear friends.

One of the biggest issues brought up in this series by J.D. Robb, is the Nature Vs. Nurture debate. I love it! It always makes me think and it is very satisfying to see these people that could have become something very wrong, rise above nature and blood, to become amazing people.

On the crime fighting aspect of the series, I find that Robb uses two types of narrative. Sometimes she carries more of a "Monk" style, where the perpetrator is clear if not early on, but soon. The other one is where we get a punch in the face when we finally find out out who it is. I really enjoy that she doesn't have only one style, since that always keeps me guessing =D

I LOVE this series and if you have yet to check it out, please do so! The first few books might not compel you completely, but keep reading! You won't regret it!

It had been several years since I'd read the previous book in this series, and I'm wondering why I waited so long. I love this series! Nora Roberts does such an excellent job of adding depth to her cast of characters in each successive book. She has outdone herself with Eve Dallas, who just jumps off the page in all her complexity. Roberts is also great at creating solid police procedurals that keep the reader drawn into the mystery, but the really draw is the relationship between the characters. We are treated to poignant moments, playful moments, and even some laugh-out-loud moments. I can't wait to read the next book. I hope this series never ends. And if it's made into a TV show, they have to get an exceptional actress to do justice to Eve.

I am so enjoying this journey through the life of Eve Dallas, Roarke and their friends. Ms Roberts is the master story teller and I so look forward to reading another of the series, of which I have all, in my library. They are all a total pleasure to read and both the same and very different each time. Such skill is unimaginable but there, on show, with each new instalment. I should think it would be lifes major pleasure to spend an hour just talking to a wonderful lady who has given so much to so many readers, lucky enough to have found her.
